MoFo 2013 - Day 4 - C is for Cookie That's Good Enough for Me

As a kid, I was addicted to Sesame Street. I loved to sing along with Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, and Oscar the Grouch. Cookie Monster always made me giggle. His cookie addiction and obsession and his blue fur made him incredibly endearing to me. Don't tell Cookie, but Grover was actually my favorite. I loved his spastic, crazy energy but I digress.

A little cookie trivia for you: cookies were actually invented quite by accident. Dutch bakers used to drop a bit of sweet cake dough on the bottom of their ovens to test the oven temperature. Koejke is Dutch for little cake, which is where the name cookie came from. A delicious "accident" I must say. There are hundreds and maybe even thousands of variations of cookies. My personal favorites to make are the easy drop cookies like chocolate chip, oatmeal and snicker doodles. One of my favorite fancy pants cookies are the Rumnog-Pecan Cookies from Veganomicon. I love bringing them to holiday parties and getting the oooohs and ahhhhs. Don't get me wrong, I love bar cookies, refrigerator cookies and the like, but as I am more cook than baker, the drop variety get my vote.

For this fine day, I chose another one of my Isa and Terry favorites: Cowboy Cookies (see they start with a C!) from Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar. They are pretty simple to make, but harbor lots of goodies like (c)oconut, (c)hocolate chips and toasted nuts. I make them extra big, because that's how I like to roll.

I thought about doing something Chile or Chili related for today's post, but I did an entire month of MoFo a couple of years ago featuring those two lovelies. But just for the heck of it, I'm posting this picture of Fred. He came home the other night with THIS. Hot Damn!

  1. Yes! Cookies and chili are two of my great loves. Now if only there was a way to combine the two without it being totally disgusting...

    1. I was thinking more along the lines of chili (the dish) melded with cookies, but I like the way you think! :D
