Giveaway!! Vegan Sandwiches Save the Day

Vegan Sandwiches Save the Day by Celine Steen and Tamasin Noyess, what can I say? I absolutely love this book! For those of you who are PPK-ers, this book is featured the week of October 14th for the PPK Cookbook Challenge. I am hoping it will ship to the winner in time for the challenge!

I've already done a review HERE, so I won't re-review here today. What I will do is share some more of my favorites from the book!

I was not expecting to be wowed by the Two Tomato Tango (pg. 126) but boy was I wrong. The fried green tomato elevated this sandwich to something quite drool worthy!

The Protein Happy Quinoa Wrap (pg. 74) is chock full of protein goodness. The flavors are fantastic, but I think what I really love about this wrap is it's portability. It's equally comfy in your lunch box, a picnic or a day hike.

Let us not forget breakfast! The Hollandaze'd Asparagus Rounds (pg. 44) were a wonderful way to start the day. The bright flavor of the hollandaze was the perfect topper for the earthy asparagus spears.

Yep, I love me some sandwiches. As a kid my sandwiches were pretty basic. These sandwiches are much more "grown up". For today's giveaway, leave a comment about your earliest sandwich memory or a childhood favorite. The winner will be chosen at random tomorrow! So make sure to check tomorrow's post to see if you are the lucky winner! (US folks only this time around).

  1. My favorite sandwich as a child, believe it or not, was elbow macaroni with salt on two pieces of white bread. I guess my parents weren't too creative with toppings and so I just decided to pile it on some bread to make it less boring.

  2. One of my favorites as a kid was a "pizza sandwich" - a grilled cheese with a big slice of tomato and some oregano. This book looks amazing!!

  3. I love sandwiches!! as a kid, I was all about grilled cheese sandwiches and tuna salad sandwiches. Now i make grilled cheeses with daiya and chickpea salad sandwiches instead of tuna so I can still have my favorite comfort foods!

  4. My brother and I always got creative on Saturdays...when everyone else was sleeping in, we'd spend all morning watching cartoons and raiding the fridge. I clearly remember an experiment with pb&j sandwiches with a layer of rice krispies. I don't know if marshmallows were involved, but it's entirely possible. Amazing how much sugar a childhood metabolism can handle. ;)

  5. Peanut butter and strawberry jam...loved it as a kid, still love it (and crave it) today!

  6. I liked "salad sandwiches" - whole wheat bread with a little butter on each slice, then lettuce, tomato, and whatever else was around. I suspect Mom might've created those during our leaner times, monetarily speaking... :)

  7. I was quite the minimalist as a child, the mustard sandwich was my most common request. That's right, 2 slices of bread with yellow mustard in between, and nothing else.

  8. As a child I didn't like peanut butter and jelly mixed together. My Mom would make me half of a peanut butter sandwich and half of a jelly sandwich.

  9. I had a strangely low sandwich childhood, so I really don't have a favorite or interesting memory to share. However, that picture of the sandwich with a fried green tomato on it might be the most delicious looking sandwich I have ever seen!

  10. I think my childhood foreshadowed me becoming vegan, because when I was about four, I LOVED ketchup sandwiches. Just bread and ketchup, that's all! My uncle used to come in the house and laugh at me while I so ernestly made my "Ketchup bread". He'd always say, "So you gonna put anything else on that?" Of course not!

  11. I was a strange kid—everything in my world had to have pickles to make it better. As such, my favorite sandwich was a sodium overload: mustard with pickles the "butts" of the loaf. Delicious! (Okay, so maybe this is still my favorite sandwich... don't tell!)

My favorite sandwich growing up was peanut butter and jam (some things never change). I ate them in the weirdest way, though. It HAD to be strawberry jam, and I would make the sandwich as usual, then pull the slices apart and lick the jam-covered peanut butter side off, then eat that slice, then eat the jam slice. I was an odd kid.

  15. PB&J in my backyard with a side of chips. That's what it was all about back in the day. Now it's time for grown-up sandwiches.

  16. I need to win this! My earliest sandwich memory is from 4th grade. A girl I hated had a ham sandwich and she smashed potato chips into it. I was disgusted at first, but the very next day I did this same thing in my peanut butter sandwich. Since that day, I have always put potato chips in my peanut butter sandwich. PB&PC for me!

  17. Being from the midwest, I loved summer because it was tomato sandwich time! It didn't matter what kind of bread it was on (now I prefer a grainy whole wheat) but preparing the sanwich also included a big jar of mayo! It is much harder to come by a good tomato in Arizona but with the great heirloom varieties now available, a great tomato sandwich can still be had!

  18. Ahh, what a good memory! My dad worked on an oil rig on the night shift, outside of our small town. My earliest sandwich memory is taking him scrambled egg and cooked Spam (!!) sandwiches. Mom would put us in the car in our pajamas and we'd eat ours in the back seat of the car while she drove his and a big thermos of coffee out to him around midnight.

  19. My boyfriend saw this book and was begging me to get it. My earliest sandwich memory is my hometown's specialty the horseshoe, toast, hamburger, french fries, and cheese sauce. It is super fun to veganize :)

  20. Definitely not my favorite sandwich, but I do remember, when I was younger, I couldn't remember if the famous Elvis sandwich was bananas and peanut butter, or grilled cheese with peanut butter. So I tried the cheese + peanut butter combination. Don't think I've ever had it again. It was...interesting.

I am drooling over this cookbook though.

  21. My favorite sandwich as a child was an open-faced peanut butter slice that had also been slathered with another layer of butter. I called it peanut butter and butter. I often took two slices in my packed lunch, but they weren't to go smashed together as a sandwich. So each sticky slice was carefully slid into a plastic baggie. I also enjoyed having a few potato chips smashed into the peanut butter & butter. What can I say? I had a kid's palate! :D

  22. The earliest memory I have of sandwiches would be grilled cheese (of course they were vegan back then) I always had mine with a little dollop of ketchup on the side to dip the sandwich in.

  23. I've been a lifelong addict to sandwiches! When I was a kid my absolute favorite sandwich was ham on wheat with pickles, tomatoes, and yellow mustard!

  24. PB and J. but it had to be raspberry. I've only recently come across the wonders of grape jam. homemade at that!

  25. My absolute favorite sandwich as a kid was cheddar cheese and mustard, with a layer of potato chips mashed inside. Every once in a while I still sneak some chips onto my sandwich!

  28. A childhood favorite was always PB and J. But as a teen I found out about hummus and tomato, a combination I still love.

  29. My fave sammie growing up was tuna salad with potato chips crumbled in between the bread and the salad.

  30. All through junior high and high school I ate a peanut butter sandwich for lunch almost every day. No jelly (I don't really like it), just peanut butter. One of the men who worked there just called me 'peanut butter girl.' I don't even know if he knew my name, haha.

  31. All through elementary school, I would only eat a plain jelly sandwich on white bread. SO BORING. Never again.

  32. I did the daily peanut butter sandwich for ages! My current favorite though is the spaghetti or mac and cheeze sandwich - just put the leftovers between bread and enjoy the carb coma!

  33. I remember my mom making me peanut butter and sugar sandwiches when I was a little girl. Seems strange now, but then of course I loved them.

  34. My earliest childhood memory of a sandwich was my Gramma's grilled cheese. Not vegan, of course, but I didn't go vegan until I was 40. But as good as the sandwich was, it was also the fun of just being with Gramma, who was a real firecracker!

  35. My Dad is the sandwich expert - always made the best grilled cheese sandwiches.

  36. When I was a wee one, I would take mini Eggo waffles and make mini sandwiches with them...filled with mustard and cheddar. I think I was 4, so it was nice to feel like I was cooking, I guess...

  37. My earliest sandwich memory is when I was a kid, my mom used to make me grilled cheese with sliced tomato and pickles for lunch with tomato soup.
